Tumor histology<\/strong> \u2014 is a fundamental diagnostic method in oncology, without which it is impossible to establish an accurate diagnosis. It is thanks to the study of tissue samples under a microscope that doctors get the answer to the main question: is the neoplasm malignant, and if so, what type and level<\/a> aggressiveness. The choice of treatment, the prognosis for the patient, and the possibility of using innovative therapy methods depend on this.<\/p>\n

The role of histology in modern medicine<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Tumor histology is the \u00abgold standard\u00bb of diagnosis, recognized by all leading medical organizations in the world, including the WHO and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Unlike imaging methods such as MRI or CT, which only show the size and location of a tumor, histology allows us to reveal its cellular structure. This is fundamentally important, because two seemingly identical tumors can differ in origin and aggressiveness.<\/p>\n

Stages of histological examination of tumors<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Histology involves several sequential steps:<\/p>\n

    Obtaining a biopsy specimen<\/strong> \u2014 a piece of tissue is taken during surgery or biopsy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Fixation<\/strong> \u2014 the material is stored in a formalin solution to stop the decomposition of the cells.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Processing<\/strong> \u2014 the tissue is dehydrated and embedded in paraffin.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Section preparation<\/strong> \u2014 a special microtome makes ultrathin sections several micrometers thick.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Dyeing<\/strong> \u2014 dyes are used (most often hematoxylin and eosin) that make cellular structures visible.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
