It is a marker of acute systemic inflammation.<br \/>\n\ud83d\udea8 IL-6 is synthesized:<br \/>\n\u2013 activated monocytes\/macrophages;<br \/>\n\u2013 fibroblasts;<br \/>\n\u2013 endothelial cells in inflammation, trauma, hypoxia, bacterial infections.<br \/>\nThe anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-6 is produced rapidly and is increased during acute inflammatory responses associated with injury, trauma, stress, infection, and other pathological conditions. IL-6 concentrations in trauma patients may serve as precursors of late complications of surgical treatment or as a marker of undiagnosed injuries or complications.
