Most often, doctors ask to take tests on an empty stomach, but many patients underestimate the importance of this rule. Food can significantly change the biochemical composition of blood, urine, hormonal background and even the results of immunological tests. To avoid false results, it is important to know how nutrition affects certain tests.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"494\" data-end=\"539\"><strong>How food affects laboratory tests<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"541\" data-end=\"662\"><strong data-start=\"541\" data-end=\"572\">1. Biochemical blood test<\/strong><br data-start=\"572\" data-end=\"575\" \/>This study is sensitive to the composition of food, especially fats and carbohydrates. ESR + manual count of complete blood count)\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"339\">Complete blood count<\/a> (ZAK)<\/strong><br data-start=\"888\" data-end=\"891\" \/>The effect of food is less pronounced, however:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"925\" data-end=\"1128\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"925\" data-end=\"1001\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"1001\">fatty foods can cause lipemia (plasma fat), which complicates the analysis<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1060\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1060\">High-protein foods temporarily increase white blood cell levels<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1128\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1128\">caffeine or sweets - have a slight effect on hematocrit and glucose<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1130\" data-end=\"1240\"><strong data-start=\"1130\" data-end=\"1185\">3. Sugar tests (glucose, <a href=\"https:\/\/medilab.km.ua\/en\/analysis\/biochemical-blood-tests\/diabetes-diagnosis\/insulin-insulin\/\">insulin<\/a>, HOMA index)<\/strong><br data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1188\" \/>These tests <strong data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1207\">always<\/strong> are performed on an empty stomach because:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1470\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1321\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1244\" data-end=\"1321\">even tea with sugar or fruit 2\u20133 hours before the analysis distorts the results<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1322\" data-end=\"1393\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1393\">the glucose tolerance test requires a special diet the day before<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1470\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1396\" data-end=\"1470\">in case of overeating or undereating, insulin levels may be unreliable<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1602\"><strong data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1529\">4. <a href=\"https:\/\/medilab.km.ua\/en\/analysis\/biochemical-blood-tests\/blood-lipid-spectrum\/lipidogram-lipid-profile\/\">Lipid profile<\/a> (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides)<\/strong><br data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1532\" \/>Especially sensitive to fatty foods. Blood test for hormones<\/strong><br data-start=\"1770\" data-end=\"1773\" \/>Some hormones are dependent on food, for example:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1817\" data-end=\"2109\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1817\" data-end=\"1873\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1819\" data-end=\"1873\"><strong data-start=\"1819\" data-end=\"1848\">insulin, cortisol, leptin<\/strong> \u2014 change after eating<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1874\" data-end=\"1971\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1971\"><strong data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1912\">TSH, T4, T3 (thyroid gland)<\/strong> \u2014 it is better to take the test on an empty stomach, but food has less of an effect<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2109\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1974\" data-end=\"2109\"><strong data-start=\"1974\" data-end=\"2017\">sex hormones (estrogen, testosterone)<\/strong> \u2014 food does not have a critical effect, but it is recommended to refrain from eating 2\u20133 hours before the test<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2186\"><strong data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2122\">6.
