Its development is changing both fundamental scientific understanding of life and practical technologies in medicine, agriculture, pharmacy, and energy.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"\" data-start=\"766\" data-end=\"800\">The structure of modern bioengineering<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"853\">Bioengineering encompasses several technological platforms:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"1091\"><strong data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"878\">Genetic engineering<\/strong><br data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"881\" \/>It is used for DNA editing, development of transgenic organisms, creation of therapeutic cells. Technologies <a href=\"https:\/\/medilab.km.ua\/en\/crispr-diagnostics-revolutionizes-the-accuracy-and-speed-of-disease-detection\/\">CRISPR<\/a>, TALEN, ZFN open up new possibilities for the treatment of hereditary and oncological diseases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1093\" data-end=\"1315\"><strong data-start=\"1093\" data-end=\"1115\">Cellular engineering<\/strong><br data-start=\"1115\" data-end=\"1118\" \/>It involves growing cell structures in vitro for subsequent transplantation, drug testing, or disease modeling. The focus is on stem cells, iPS cells, and hybrid cell lines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1557\"><strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1339\">Tissue engineering<\/strong><br data-start=\"1339\" data-end=\"1342\" \/>Aims at creating biologically active structures that mimic body tissues: skin, cartilage, epithelium, bone tissue. A sub-section is bioelectronics - the integration of biological tissues with electronic modules to control body functions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1999\" data-end=\"2230\"><strong data-start=\"1999\" data-end=\"2013\">3D bioprinting<\/strong><br data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2016\" \/>The technology of layer-by-layer creation of biological structures using printers that work with cells, hydrogels, and biopolymers. Tissue components are sewn into 3D-printed implants to increase survival.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"\" data-start=\"3036\" data-end=\"3070\">Agricultural and industrial applications<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3072\" data-end=\"3281\"><strong data-start=\"3072\" data-end=\"3092\">Agrobioengineering<\/strong><br data-start=\"3092\" data-end=\"3095\" \/>Used to create high-yielding, drought-resistant or disease-resistant plants. Genetically modified crops have increased biomass, higher nutritional value, and resistance to pests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3283\" data-end=\"3501\"><strong data-start=\"3283\" data-end=\"3315\">Bioreactors and biofermenters<\/strong><br data-start=\"3315\" data-end=\"3318\" \/>They are used in pharmacology, the food industry, and biofuel production. Bioengineering allows you to optimize the environment in which bacteria or yeast produce the necessary substances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3503\" data-end=\"3738\"><strong data-start=\"3503\" data-end=\"3526\">Synthetic biology<\/strong><br data-start=\"3526\" data-end=\"3529\" \/>Combines modeling of artificial cells, development of hybrid DNA constructs, and creation of biomolecular logic circuits. This allows cells to be programmed to perform specific functions (e.g., toxin detection).<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"\" data-start=\"3740\" data-end=\"3768\">Ethical and technical challenges<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3770\" data-end=\"3816\">Despite the prospects, the industry faces a number of difficulties:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3818\" data-end=\"4098\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3818\" data-end=\"3872\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3820\" data-end=\"3872\">Uneven regulation of technology in different countries<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3873\" data-end=\"3924\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3875\" data-end=\"3924\">The issue of embryo modification and patient consent<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3925\" data-end=\"3980\">\n<p
