It is a complex biochemical process in which the <strong data-start=\"460\" data-end=\"482\">endocrine system<\/strong>. It is she who starts a chain of hormonal changes that help adapt to the threat, but in the case of chronic stress can become a source of numerous disorders. To understand why we get tired, lose weight or, conversely, gain it, it is worth looking at how stress changes the functioning of the hormonal system.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"790\" data-end=\"833\">How does the endocrine response to stress work?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"930\">In a stressful situation, the so-called <strong data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"929\">hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"932\" data-end=\"1147\">\n<li data-start=\"932\" data-end=\"994\">\n<p data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"994\"><strong data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"950\">Hypothalamus<\/strong> secretes corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"995\" data-end=\"1067\">\n<p data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1067\"><strong data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1009\">Pituitary<\/strong> responds to the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1068\" data-end=\"1147\">\n<p data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1147\"><strong data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1085\">Adrenal glands<\/strong> under the action of ACTH secrete <a href=\"https:\/\/medilab.km.ua\/en\/analysis\/hormonal-panel\/gipotalamo-gipofizarno-nadnyrnykova-systema\/cortisol\/\"><strong data-start=\"1110\" data-end=\"1122\">cortisol<\/strong> <\/a>\u2014 the main stress hormone<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1365\">At the same time, the sympatho-adrenal system is activated: <strong data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1227\">adrenalin<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1247\">norepinephrine<\/strong>. Together, these hormones prepare the body for \u00abfight or flight\u00bb: they increase heart rate, blood pressure, glucose levels, and mobilize energy.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1367\" data-end=\"1408\">What happens with chronic stress?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1513\">In case of prolonged exposure to irritants <strong data-start=\"1446\" data-end=\"1502\">the endocrine system goes into overload mode<\/strong>. Consequences:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1976\">\n<li data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1617\">\n<p data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1617\"><strong data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1548\">Elevated cortisol levels<\/strong> suppresses the immune system, causes inflammatory processes, sleep disturbances<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1618\" data-end=\"1695\">\n<p data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1695\"><strong data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1642\">Insulin imbalance<\/strong> promotes fat accumulation, especially in the abdominal area<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1789\">\n<p data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1789\"><strong data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1731\">Suppression of sex hormones<\/strong> (estrogen, testosterone) reduces libido and fertility<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"1877\">\n<p data-start=\"1792\" data-end=\"1877\"><strong data-start=\"1792\" data-end=\"1824\">Adrenal exhaustion<\/strong> can lead to conditions similar to chronic fatigue<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1878\" data-end=\"1976\">\n<p data-start=\"1880\" data-end=\"1976\"><strong data-start=\"1880\" data-end=\"1920\">Thyroid dysfunction<\/strong> \u2014 slowing of metabolism, hypothyroidism-like symptoms<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"1978\" data-end=\"2015\">Why are some people more resistant to stress?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2254\">The level of stress response depends not only on external circumstances, but also on <strong data-start=\"2090\" data-end=\"2142\">individual sensitivity of receptors to hormones<\/strong>, genetics, thyroid status, vitamin levels (especially B6, B12, D), and overall hormonal balance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2256\" data-end=\"2354\">Some people have <strong data-start=\"2273\" data-end=\"2293\">rack GGNV-axis<\/strong>, others easily &quot;break down&quot;
