It is produced by the pituitary gland, a small but extremely important gland in the brain. The main function of TSH is to control the synthesis of two thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which regulate the rate of metabolism throughout the body.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"467\" data-end=\"501\"><strong data-start=\"467\" data-end=\"501\">When should you take a TSH test?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"503\" data-end=\"572\">The test is prescribed in various clinical situations.
