However, the interpretation of tumor markers requires caution: <strong data-start=\"526\" data-end=\"566\">not all markers are equally informative<\/strong> for screening or confirmation of diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"609\" data-end=\"868\">Tumor markers are divided into <strong data-start=\"636\" data-end=\"650\">specific<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"670\">nonspecific<\/strong>, depending on their relationship to specific types of tumors. This division has practical significance for the physician, especially in matters of <strong data-start=\"794\" data-end=\"867\">monitoring treatment, detecting relapses and assessing the risk of progression<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"870\" data-end=\"892\">What is a tumor marker?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"924\"><a href=\"https:\/\/medilab.km.ua\/en\/what-are-the-meanings-of-oncomarkers-and-how-to-correctly-pass-the-analysis\/\">Tumor marker<\/a> is a substance that:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"1041\">\n<li data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"978\">\n<p data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"978\">or directly produced by a tumor cell;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"1041\">\n<p data-start=\"981\" data-end=\"1041\">or produced by the body in response to tumor development.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1242\">They can be protein, enzymatic, hormonal or immunological. Their appearance in biological fluids does not always mean a malignant formation, which necessitates a differentiated approach.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1244\" data-end=\"1303\">Specific tumor markers: guidelines for targeted diagnostics<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1305\" data-end=\"1484\">These markers have <strong data-start=\"1322\" data-end=\"1361\">a clear association with a specific type of cancer<\/strong> and are widely used in clinical practice. data-start=\"3327\" data-end=\"3505\">The World Health Organization indicates that <strong data-start=\"3377\" data-end=\"3437\">no tumor marker has 100% sensitivity and specificity<\/strong>. It is recommended to use them as part of a comprehensive diagnosis.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3507\" data-end=\"3514\">FDA<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3516\" data-end=\"3759\">The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes <strong data-start=\"3601\" data-end=\"3608\">PSA<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/medilab.km.ua\/en\/what-does-alpha-fetoprotein-afp-analysis-show-and-who-is-it-prescribed-for\/\"><strong data-start=\"3610\" data-end=\"3617\">AFP<\/strong><\/a>, <strong data-start=\"3619\" data-end=\"3629\">CA 125<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3631\" data-end=\"3638\">CEA<\/strong> as markers with <strong data-start=\"3652\" data-end=\"3692\">proven clinical efficacy<\/strong>, but not as a screening tool for the general population without symptoms.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3761\" data-end=\"3776\">Mayo Clinic<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3778\" data-end=\"3997\">According to Mayo Clinic research, the level <strong data-start=\"3821\" data-end=\"3832\">CA 19-9<\/strong> increases not only in pancreatic cancer, but also in <strong data-start=\"3885\" data-end=\"3937\">chronic pancreatitis and gallstone disease<\/strong>, which reduces its prognostic value in the early stages.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3999\" data-end=\"4042\">Practical conclusions for the doctor and the patient<\/h2>\n<ul data-start=\"4044\" data-end=\"4522\">\n<li data-start=\"4044\" data-end=\"4122\">\n<p data-start=\"4046\" data-end=\"4122\"><strong data-start=\"4046\" data-end=\"4097\">Tumor markers do not replace instrumental methods<\/strong> (ultrasound, CT, MRI, biopsy).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4123\" data-end=\"4217\">\n<p data-start=\"4125\" data-end=\"4217\">Increasing even a highly specific marker requires <strong data-start=\"4179\" data-end=\"4216\">confirmation by other examinations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4218\" data-end=\"4316\">\n<p data-start=\"4220\" data-end=\"4316\">In dynamics, tumor markers allow <strong data-start=\"4255\" data-end=\"4315\">detect recurrence 1\u20133 months earlier than visual methods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4317\" data-end=\"4420\">\n<p data-start=\"4319\" data-end=\"4420\">To assess the risk, it is worth using <strong data-start=\"4357\" data-end=\"4379\">combined panels<\/strong> tumor markers (e.g. ROMA, HE4 + CA 125).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4421\" data-end=\"4522\">\n<p data-start=\"4423\" data-end=\"4522\"><strong data-start=\"4423\" data-end=\"4494\">Tumor markers should not be used as the sole screening tool.<\/strong> without clinical symptoms.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4529\" data-end=\"4752\">Tumor markers are not a magic wand, but a precise tool in the hands of an experienced physician.
