It can cause an infection known as infectious mononucleosis (IM). In this text, we will review the early antigen (EAG) of Epstein-Barr virus and its detection using the IgG infectious panel.<\/p>\n<p>EBV-associated MI is a disease that is often diagnosed in adolescents and young adults. It presents with symptoms such as fever, sore throat, lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes), and general weakness. However, EBV can also cause serious complications such as viral mononucleosis, hepatitis, sore throat, and even some forms of cancer, including lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.<\/p>\n<p>To diagnose infectious mononucleosis, doctors often use a specific immunological panel that includes the determination of various antibodies and antigens associated with the Epstein-Barr virus. One important component of this panel is the determination of the early antigen (EAG).<\/p>\n<p>EBV early antigen (EAG) is a marker of active viral replication. Its detection in serum may indicate that EBV infection is active or present. It is important to note that early antigen is usually detected in the first weeks after infection and may be positive for a limited time, after which its level in the blood may decrease.<\/p>\n<p>However, to get a complete picture of EBV infection and the stage of the disease, it is also important to measure levels of IgG antibodies. IgG are antibodies that are produced during the immune system\u2019s response to EBV. They remain in the body after infection and provide immunity against further EBV infections. By measuring IgG levels, doctors can determine whether there has been an EBV infection in the past and how active it was.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, when you first get EBV, your IgG levels are low and rise as your immune system responds. People who have had a previous infection will have higher IgG levels and will be immune to re-infection. However, it is important to remember that EBV can reactivate periodically and IgG levels can rise again.<\/p>\n<p>In summary, early antigen (EAG) and IgG antibody levels are important components of the immunological panel for the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis caused by Epstein-Barr virus. These tests help doctors determine the presence and activity of the infection, as well as determine the stage of the disease.
