Apolipoprotein A1 (Apolipoprotein A1, Apo A1)

Biochemical blood tests/Blood lipid spectrum
Apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A1) — is the main protein component of high-density lipoproteins (HDL), which in medicine are often called “good cholesterol.” This protein plays a key role in the process of transferring cholesterol from body tissues to the liver for its further processing and excretion.
Determining the level of Apo A1 is an important diagnostic indicator for assessing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, in particular atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
What does the analysis show?
The level of apolipoprotein A1 reflects the functional state of the lipid transport system. Unlike the usual indicator of “good cholesterol” (HDL), Apo A1 provides more accurate information about the number of antiatherogenic particles in the blood.
High Apo A1 levels usually indicates effective protection of blood vessels from the deposition of cholesterol plaques.
Low Apo A1 level indicates impaired lipid metabolism and an increased risk of developing cardiovascular complications, even if total cholesterol levels remain within normal limits.
When does the doctor prescribe the test?
To assess the individual risk of cardiovascular pathologies (especially in the presence of a hereditary predisposition).
When abnormalities in the lipid profile (dyslipidemia) are detected.
To monitor the effectiveness of treatment with hypolipidemic drugs (statins, fibrates).
Patients with diabetes, obesity, or metabolic syndrome.
How to prepare for the study?
To obtain reliable results, it is important to follow these rules:
On an empty stomach: Blood is donated strictly in the morning, after 8–12 hours of fasting.
Limitation: Alcohol consumption and intense physical activity should be avoided 24 hours before the analysis.
Diet: Avoid eating large amounts of fatty and fried foods the day before.
Medicine: Tell your doctor about any medications you are taking, as some drugs can affect blood protein levels.
Rest: Immediately before blood sampling, you should rest for 10–15 minutes at rest.
Diagnostics in the Medi Lab Plus network of laboratories is performed using modern equipment that ensures high accuracy of results. Our specialists will help you correctly interpret the obtained data and detect hidden violations at the early stages.
