Excision and conization of the cervix (with determination of the frequency of resection margins)

Histological material is taken only in medical institutions.

Cervical excision and conization is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure that removes a pathological area of the cervix for further histological examination. Determining the purity of the resection margins shows whether the altered cells have been completely removed and allows you to assess the risk of further development of dysplasia.

Cervical excision and conization — is a medical and diagnostic surgical procedure aimed at removing pathologically altered areas of the cervix. The method is used for dysplasia, precancerous changes, and suspected cell transformation.

During the intervention, a cone-shaped fragment of tissue is formed, which is sent for histological examination.

A particularly important stage is determining the cleanliness of the resection margins is an indicator that demonstrates whether the pathological focus has been completely removed.

What does the study assess?

  • Removal of abnormal cervical tissue

  • Presence or absence of altered cells at the edges of the resection

  • Risk of residual dysplasia or recurrence of pathology

  • Degree of epithelial damage

When is the procedure prescribed?

  • Cervical dysplasia (CIN I–III)

  • Positive or questionable Pap test result

  • Detection of high-risk HPV

  • Suspicion of precancerous conditions

  • Ambiguous or abnormal colposcopy results

What does the result “clean resection margins” mean?

  • Clean edges: no pathological cells were detected - the lesion was completely removed

  • Positive edges: abnormal cells are present - monitoring or additional intervention may be required

Advantages of the method:

  • Combination of treatment and diagnostics

  • High accuracy of histological assessment

  • Reducing the risk of dysplasia progression

  • Minimizing trauma to healthy tissues

Preparation:

The procedure is performed after consultation with a gynecologist. Additional preparation depends on the doctor's recommendations.
