Fallopian tube examination

Histological material is taken only in medical institutions.
Histological examination of the fallopian tube — is a pathomorphological analysis of the tissues of one or both fallopian tubes removed during surgery (tubectomy). The analysis allows for a detailed study of the structure of the organ, to determine the causes of its functional changes, and to rule out dangerous pathological processes.
Research objective: The main task is to morphologically verify the causes of pathology, such as obstruction, inflammation or ectopic pregnancy. Since the fallopian tubes are a frequent site of development of latent inflammation and rare neoplasms, histology is an obligatory standard for confirming the diagnosis.
What does the pathologist evaluate:
Epithelial integrity and structure: assessment of the condition of the mucous membrane and the presence of ciliated cells that ensure the movement of the egg.
Signs of inflammation: diagnosis of acute or chronic salpingitis, the presence of adhesions and fibrosis.
Pipe lumen content: detection of chorionic villi (in ectopic pregnancy), accumulation of fluid (hydrosalpinx) or pus (pyosalpinx).
Cellular atypia: searching for altered cells that may be early signs of an oncological process (especially in the fimbrial department).
Clinical significance: The results of the study help the doctor understand the causes of infertility, chronic pelvic pain, or failed IVF attempts. The analysis also confirms the success of treatment for ectopic pregnancy and provides a prognosis for the patient's reproductive health in the future.
When is it prescribed:
after surgery for tubal (ectopic) pregnancy;
in chronic inflammatory processes that have led to obstruction of the tubes;
after removal of hydrosalpinx or pyosalpinx;
in preparation for reproductive programs or during voluntary surgical sterilization.
