Hormone levels in the blood: when to pay attention to “invisible regulators”

Mood swings, sleep disturbances, skin or weight problems can all be signs of a lack or excess of certain hormones. Hormones are not physically felt, but they determine everything from the cell cycle to how we respond to stress. And before symptoms become critical, they are already present in the blood. A hormone test is not about illness, but about diagnostics of the functional state of the body.
Three contexts where hormones play a key role
1. Daily well-being
Do you feel tired in the morning, often feel cold, or react sharply to stress? It's not just "overwork." It could be low thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism) or excess cortisol.
2. Fertility and cycle

What is the complexity of hormonal diagnostics?
Hormones have circadian oscillations — their level changes throughout the day.
They are interrelated: a decrease in one indicator can lead to a compensatory increase in another.
The results are affected by stress, food, physical activity, cycle phase, medications.
One analysis does not give the full picture - it is important dynamics and a combination of several indicators.

A hormonal profile is not a template
There is no «universal» list of hormones for everyone. It is formed by the doctor depending on:
symptoms,
age and gender,
concomitant diseases,
patient goals (e.g., pregnancy planning or weight control).
Example of practical application
Complaint: chronic anxiety, insomnia, sweating
Appointment: cortisol (morning), TSH, T4 free, prolactin
Result: increased cortisol and TSH, decreased T4 → confirmed hypothyroidism and stress
