Myeloperoxidase is an enzyme in white blood cells, and when the immune system starts to produce antibodies against it, it can be a sign of disease. What not to do before the test: To get reliable results, the MPO antibody test, like most blood tests, requires proper preparation. Avoid the following: Do not eat for 8-12 hours before the blood draw. The test is performed on an empty stomach. Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before the test. Do not smoke for an hour before the test. Avoid excessive physical and emotional stress for 30 minutes before the procedure. Do not take any medications without consulting your doctor. Some medications can affect the results. Be sure to tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking.
